GOLD award-4th Biennial CAPAM International Innovations Awards Program – 04 GSDMA has been awarded the GOLD AWARD by the Commonwealth Association for Public Administration & Management (CAPAM) for the initiatives undertaken in governance. The theme for the Fourth Biennial International Innovations Award Programme - 2004 was "Innovations in Governance". GSDMA has taken many innovative approaches on reconstruction and rehabilitation as well as long-term disaster mitigation planning in the State after the 2001 earthquake. With this background, GSDMA applied for the Fourth Biennial CAPAM International Innovations Awards Programme - 2004 with an entry titled "Gujarat Emergency Earthquake Reconstruction Project (GEERP)". CAPAM received 154 submissions worldwide for the theme "Innovations in Governance".

UN - Sasakawa award for disaster reduction GSDMA was awarded the UN Sasakawa award 2003 for outstanding work in the field of disaster management and risk reduction. The presentation of the award was organized by the UN and Government of Germany on 16th October 2003 at Bonn, Germany. The ceremony was attended by 200 participants of the 2nd International Conference on Early Warning organized by the United Nations. Among the participants were Ministers, dignitaries and senior officers and experts from many countries. The Sasakawa award is administered by the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR), a specialized wing of the United Nations. It was introduced 15 years ago and is given to individuals and institutions for their outstanding work in disaster management and disaster reduction

GEERP bags World Bank’s Green Award Gujarat Emergency Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Programme implemented by GSDMA (Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority) has been awarded the prestigious “Green Awards of the World Bank” in 2004. The Green Awards is given by the World Bank for promotion and maintenance of environmental concerns in the implementation of the projects funded by the World Bank. The award was instituted in the year 2001 for encouraging environmental safeguards mechanisms of projects and implementing them. Every year two or three projects out of a large number of projects implemented all over the world are selected for this prestigious award. GEERP has tried to have minimal adverse environmental impacts and whenever any negative impact is envisaged suitable mitigation measure and monitoring strategy is framed to control the impact |
